Research

The Office of Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center aims to promote excellence in scholarship and research, and to help translate research discoveries into improved human health. To achieve this we:

  • Promote the development of research infrastructure and state-of-the-art technology.
  • Encourage partnerships with industry, government, and the community.
  • Facilitate the dissemination of research discoveries and technology to the public and private sectors.

The goal of research at UMMC is to lead the way to discoveries that will raise the health level of Mississippians and, indeed, all mankind. Effective teaching of current knowledge is an important mission of all universities, but original research enlarges the boundaries of human knowledge and drives innovation, and is a hallmark of leading universities.

UMMC has many notable research achievements during its 55-year history. In recent years there has been considerable expansion of research programs and physical facilities at UMMC, and this has led to nearly a doubling of extramural research funding in the past 3 years. Much of this expansion can be attributed to increased investment in infrastructure and in recruitment of research faculty.
