Who we are:
The Office of Research is the pre-award office responsible for promoting research, developing research infrastructure, and assisting faculty in all phases of research administration.
What we do:
- Process grant proposals for institutional approval and submission
- Review and negotiate research-related documents, including contracts, subcontracts, material transfer agreements, and clinical study agreements/budgets
- Submit electronic proposals and progress reports through Grants.gov, the NIH Commons, NSF Fastlane, and other electronic granting agency systems
- Assure compliance with sponsor and federal regulations and institutional policies for research involving human participants, animals, biohazardous substances, radioactive materials, and billing hospital and physician services
- Provide education/training in: writing and submitting grants, budget development, research assurances, legal issues in research, internal grant/contract processes, and the peer review process
- Administer the Intramural Research Support Program (IRSP), the Research Excellence Program, student research programs including the Medical Scholars Research Program (MSRP), and the Distinguished Research Lecture Series
- Provide support services for:
- Faculty orientation to research at UMMC
- Interpreting solicitation guidelines
- Preparation of grant application forms
- Grant and contract budget review
- Research-related legal issues/questions
- Grant transfers
- Contract negotiation
- Research integrity and compliance
